There are some interesting facts about karaoke music. First of all the music on the that you are singing to is not that which was produced or performed by the original artists. You may have a favorite song that you like to sing at various karaoke parties or bars. You have noticed that sometimes the music doesn't seem to sound the same. That's because different artists record it under different names. So different labeled karaoke discs sound different even though it's the same song
So what else makes a karaoke disc different? First of all the formal name for it is CDG or sometimes you will hear it called CD+G. You can probably guess what the CD means but you might be a little stumped on the G. It simply means compact disc plus graphics. Graphics add to the excitement of the whole karaoke scene. Now the main difference between a regular Cd and the CD+G disc is mostly to do with the graphic data. The graphics also include the lyrics. Unless you know the song you are singing off by heart, then the lyrics are there to allow you to sing the song. It takes a special machine such as the karaoke machine to display the graphics on the TV screen. If it were just the audio being used, then it could be played on any regular cd player.
So that's the basics of the regular karaoke cd. Of course it wouldn't stop there. Innovative technology had to come out with what is called a super SCDG. Here there is the possibility to put hundreds of songs on one single disc. This means a big saving to you because they are able to provide the music at a lower price that what the original CDG discs are. Some manufacturers are putting entire disc sets on a single SCDG.
Of course the idea of being able to buy more is very inviting. It makes it a lot easier to have less changing of the karaoke discs at a show. There is one big factor though, you possibly may need a special machine to play them though. Then another good thing is they take up less storage space both at home and when traveling because you won't have as many to carry.
Making karaoke discs is a fairly new technology and you will find changes both big and small being made all the time. It can get very expensive if you try and buy every new item that hit's the market. If you are happy happy with the setup and system you have now. Then its probably a good idea to stick with it for awhile. I mean if you just purchased a 100 karaoke discs . You don't want to discard those and run out and purchase the new super ones cause they are the latest on the market.
